for president obama, who is trying to maintain his lead in the bulls after a week debate. >> september's unemployment rate delivered president obama a pre-election gift. this is the first time it has been below 8% during his presidency. >> we know there is still that willingness for all of us to see that more people are put but to work. in this particular report, i am happy to see that we have continued growth. >> employers added 114,000 jobs in september. the numbers shocked analysts, who predicted the jobless rate would stay around 8% and possibly grow. >> this is a big report. >> president obama called the report proved that the economy is improving under his policies. >> we have made too much product progress to return to the policies that led to the crisis in the first place. >> mitt romney launched a tv ad that the recovery is too slow. even economists seem hesitant, pointing of the the number of new jobs created each month has been decreasing since july. this report a positive sign for a still fragile of economy. one downside to the report, many of the jobs created were part- ti

with president obama's debate performance -- have you changed your mind about the president, in support for the president? >> i have not change d my mind. i do still support the president. he really had an off night the other night. and governor romney did a good job, for what he needed to do. but i also we the next day on to fact checker and looked at the reality of what they both said. and there was discrepancies on both sides. you know, more discrepancies on romney's side. so i don't trust governor romney. i trust the president a lot more than i trust governor romney. >> okay. we're going to talk a lot more about this in the story, moira, but i'll ask you right now, that 47% remark that mitt romney made with that secretly recorded videotape, he came out and said i didn't mean that at all. it was a mistake. never mind. don't pay attention to that. does that resonate for you? >> i'm so glad you asked that question, carol, because in the past 14 months my husband was unemployed. he just got a temp job tuesday. and we were dependent on that unemployment so that we wouldn't lose our house

and a "usa today" gallup poll before the debate said 53% think president obama will do better for them than mitt romney at 32%. how does he overcome that? >> i think wednesday night hit the restart button. they are ready to go. about a month to talk about his plan and i think what you saw on wednesday night, it wasn't the 30 second spots being defined by barack obama. it was mitt romney speaking unfiltered to voters for 90 seconds. he was in their living room. they liked what they heard. >> jamal, shoot tragt with me on this. if i'm a democra sitting around watchthis, mitt romney connected wednesday night. it has got to make you little bit nervous to say this is a magic bullet that barack obama has. he has been able to connect with voters, mitt romney hasn't. now, he has. doesn't this make you a little edit twitchy? >> oh, it makes a lot of people twitchy. i wrote a column about this. democrats have been getting a little confidence, maybe smug, about their chances as poll numbers continue to show barack obama pulling away from mitt romney. knock on one more door, ring one more phone, to try

's talking down the economy, strictly for political purposes. and if barack obama can't do something with that in the next debate, then there's really some problem with his debate performance because this is a slow one coming in over the plate. the trouble that the president has in talking about the whole subject is he can't be too optimistic -- of course. >> -- because in the past what's happened is when he's gotten too far ahead of himself in saying that things are looking rosy, there are still a lot of people out there who are hurting and they don't want to hear that. the president has to kind of walk a fine line. but any rational person should know when there's signs of hope, to run them down and minimize them and tell people that it's not good news isn't helpful for anybody except maybe your political fortunes. >> incapable of celebrating good news. julian, jonathan, thank you both. >>> neck, mitt walks his words backwards. >> let me see if i can come up with a two-minute answer that might have been more effective. liar! lie, lie, lie, liar, lie, lie, lie, lie, liar!
